Rollon vs Spray Perfume: Finding the best fragrance application for you

Rollon vs Spray Perfume: Finding the best fragrance application for you

I get asked all the time: What's the difference between roll-on and spray perfumes? Honestly, it's all about personal preference. There are several factors to consider when choosing a perfume, including potency and use. Fragrances can move your soul and rejuvenate your spirit, changing the way you feel and tackle the day. It's important to choose the right application that fits your mood and lifestyle.

Not sure which fragrance applicator is right for you?  Read on to discover the key differences between rollon and spray perfumes and make your own determination.

Rollon Perfumes: The travel companion

Rollon (or rollerball) perfumes are an excellent choice for those who want something more discreet and portable. The rollerball design allows for precise application, making it ideal for touch-ups throughout the day.

You may want to choose a rollon perfume for the following reasons:

  • Subtle Scent: Rollons tend to be less concentrated than spray perfumes and evoke more of a personal scent experience that won’t overpower your senses. Less concentration of fragrance oil though may lead to more touch ups throughout the day depending on your preferences.
  • Alcohol-Free: Rain City Rae's rollon perfumes are made with a fractionated coconut oil base for a more gentler experience on the skin. Glycerin is added for extra moisture, helping to preserve the scent on your skin for even longer. The oil-based formula is often a great choice for individuals with dry or sensitive skin.
  • Easy to Apply: Rollons let you have total control over where and how much perfume you use. Whether it’s just a dab behind your ears or a little on your wrist; it’s quick, convenient, and not overwhelming. Rollons are great for applying in public. Let’s be real, no one wants to get sprayed in the face by your favorite fragrance, no matter how amazing it smells 😄
  • On-the-Go: Rollons are perfect for travel or tossing in your purse for quick touchups. They’re compact and easy to use. I love keeping rollons in my car’s center console and gym bag for when I’m on the go and forget to wear perfume.

Rollon perfume products can last you longer than spray perfumes due to less waste.  However, products made from oil may go rancid after a year. Rain City Rae's adds soy free Vitamin E to help delay the process. However, it's always best to store your fragrances in cool, dry locations away from direct sunlight to help preserve your favorite scents.

Spray Perfumes: The long lasting classic

Spray perfumes are the classic choice in fragrance application.  More pronounced and concentrated scent, spray perfumes are a long lasting choice that makes a statement. The spray atomizer design allows for all-over application, ideal for those who prefer a more noticeable scent.

You may want to choose a spray perfume for the following reasons:

  • More Concentrated: Spray perfumes are Rain City Rae's most concentrated formula, giving you a stronger scent that lasts longer throughout the day.
  • Versatile: The mist from a perfume spray can be applied to clothes, hair, and skin, giving you an even longer-lasting aroma. With less precision than a rollon, the sprayer allows you to apply fragrance to a wider area much quicker.
  • Alcohol-Based: Spray perfumes are made with a mix of perfumer's alcohol and distilled water.  Alcohol is essential in allowing the fragrance to dissipate.

Rain City Rae's spray perfumes are made without synthetic binders or fillers. A higher concentration of perfumer's alcohol is essential to prevent mold that can grow in water-based products. Alcohol acts as a natural, antifungal preservative and disinfectant, supporting Rain City Rae's mission to offer products with simple ingredients.

So what's your favorite?

Ultimately, the choice between rollerball and spray perfumes comes down to personal preference. If you enjoy a subtle, close-to-the-skin scent, a rollerball perfume may be the better option for you. On the other hand, if you enjoy a more noticeable, long-lasting fragrance, a spray alcohol perfume might be more suited for you. You may find, like me, you use certain types for different events/activities. Experimenting with both types of perfume applicators can help you determine which one aligns best with your preferences.
