- A consultation by email and a personalized fragrance direction.
- One to two initial trial samples and up to two rounds of adjustments to your selected direction.
- One finished 50 mL spray bottle after you approve the final sample.
- Standard U.S. ground shipping for included samples and the finished bottle, where eligible.

How it works
- Tell me about your fragrance. Submit the inquiry below. I’ll review the idea, discuss feasibility, and confirm pricing and availability. For a discontinued fragrance, I’ll evaluate approximately 2 mL of the original at no charge and respond within 7 business days of receiving it.
- Approve your proposal. Once the scope and timeline are agreed, a development payment gets your project started. The remaining balance is due only after you approve the final sample, before bottling and shipping.
- Try your samples. Initial samples are expected within 2–4 weeks of your agreed start date and payment. Wear them and email your feedback within 7 days. Up to two rounds of adjustments are included; each may take up to 2 weeks.
- Approve your perfume. Once you approve the final sample and pay the balance, I’ll prepare your 50 mL bottle and confirm its shipping date.
Allow approximately 8 weeks for development, plus shipping and feedback time. Timing depends on the project and material availability. Please share wedding or gifting deadlines before booking; a date is reserved only when confirmed.
My approach to custom perfumery
I’m Rachael, the perfumer behind Rain City Rae’s. My work is shaped by life in the Pacific Northwest and a preference for subtle, wearable fragrance. We’ll discuss how you want your perfume to feel and wear, as well as the notes you enjoy.
I work with botanical extracts and fragrance accords, selected for each brief, in non-denatured organic perfumer’s alcohol. Custom perfume is not automatically all-natural; if botanical-only ingredients are important to you, include that in your inquiry so we can discuss what’s possible.
For discontinued scents, I formulate by nose using your original sample as a reference. I aim to capture the character you love, but cannot guarantee an exact duplicate or a specific wear time.
Before you book
Can you recreate a discontinued perfume or cologne?
I consider these projects individually after smelling a sample of the original. This is formulation by nose, not laboratory analysis or access to the original formula. A similar note list alone cannot establish a match. If I don’t feel the project is a good fit, I’ll let you know before accepting development payment.
Can you make a wedding scent for me and my partner?
Yes, you can inquire about one fragrance or separate scents. The starting price covers one fragrance and one 50 mL bottle; additional fragrances and bottles are quoted separately. Please include your wedding date. This service is individual fragrance development; group perfume bars and private events have a separate scope and quote.
When do I pay, and what if we don’t find the right blend?
For a $300 project, $100 is due before development and $200 after you approve the final sample, before bottling. The development payment covers time and materials and is nonrefundable once work begins. If you stop without approving a final sample, the remaining balance is not owed. Additional work beyond the included revisions requires your approval of a separate quote.
How long does custom perfume take?
Initial samples usually take 2–4 weeks from the agreed start date and payment. Each included adjustment may take up to 2 weeks. Allow approximately 8 weeks of development, plus feedback and shipping time. Material sourcing and the project brief can extend the timeline; I’ll confirm timing before you book.
Will the fragrance be exclusively mine?
The standard service is nonexclusive. Rain City Rae’s retains ownership of the developed formula and may offer the fragrance in a future public collection. If you want an exclusive commission, please request a separate quote before development begins.
Can I reorder my approved fragrance?
Yes. Your approved formula is kept on file, and future bottles are priced at the current rate for the selected size without another development fee for an unchanged formula. Availability depends on materials. Any necessary reformulation and associated costs will be discussed before you proceed.
Can we work together remotely, or meet locally?
The process can be completed by email with shipped samples at eligible U.S. addresses. I’m based in Steilacoom, Washington; a local sample handoff may be arranged by appointment. Please contact me before mailing an alcohol-based fragrance so we can confirm suitable shipping arrangements.
Can you accommodate ingredient sensitivities?
Please share known ingredient allergies or sensitivities before booking. We can discuss your preferences and material limitations, but no fragrance can be guaranteed allergy-free or suitable for every sensitive wearer.
